A Sneak Peek Into Our Interior Design Process
At Alive Design, we design beautiful interiors in homes and offices across Connecticut including, New Haven County, Fairfield County, Middlesex County and Hartford County. We live for creativity and always bring our enthusiasm to work with us. Since 1994, we have been working closely with the residents and business owners in the area to transform their spaces from average to exceptional, and we would love to do the same for you. So what can you expect when you hire us as your interior designer? Here’s an inside look into our design process:
Step 1: Provide Initial Consultation
This is where the fun begins! As soon as you choose us for your interior design needs in Connecticut, we will get to know what makes you tick. What colors do you love? Are there any that you despise? Do you prefer sleek, sophisticated spaces, or is a relaxed vibe more your thing? We will ask you as many questions as we need to so that we fully understand the vision you have for your interior design—because it is your space, after all, and you will be the one seeing it every day. We will also visit the space, whether it is in your home or office, so we can see firsthand the area we are working with.
Step 2: Create Floor Plan
Now it’s time to get busy planning, which means heading to the drawing board. We will create a detailed floor plan of the space using precise measurements, including the placement of all furniture. This is also the stage in which we select the furniture that we feel will be appropriate for the scale of your room. For example, a compact room with short ceilings will need small-scale furniture, while a large room with vaulted ceilings will require taller furniture to emphasize the dramatic height of the ceiling.
Step 3: Select Area Rugs
Now that we have a clear idea of the upholstery pieces and casegoods that will look amazing in your space, it’s time for us to pick an area rug that coordinates with the color scheme we have in mind. Trust us, it’s a lot easier to start with the area rug and find furniture and accessories to go along with it than it is to save the rug for last. And since the rug is what grounds the space and ties everything together, its importance should never be underestimated. Whatever your personal style is, we will work closely with you during the selection process to ensure that every inch of the completed space makes you happy.
Step 4: Design Window Treatments
With the furniture and rugs taken care of, the next item on our interior design agenda is to spruce up the windows. Our approach to the window treatments varies depending on the space we are working with, but we always want them to be both functional and pleasing to the eye. As an example, for the window treatments in this industrial space, we wanted something that would filter the light effectively and offer privacy when desired, but we didn’t want anything that would detract from the stunning windowpanes. A screen shade fit the bill flawlessly thanks to its minimalistic design.
Step 5: Choose Artwork and Accessories
With all of the main interior design features in place, it’s time to complete your space with what we like to call the final touches. These are the items that will make the room feel finished and lived in, and they do vary greatly depending on the overall look we are going for. To add that special something to the industrial space we’ve been showing you, we would look for pictures of interesting architectural features and black and white prints of industrial items, like gears and bolts. TopArt is one of our favorite resources for these final touches because they not only have a huge assortment of styles, they also let you customize the size, frame, and mat type so it fits the space perfectly every time.
At Alive Design, we strive to provide you with a space that you only thought was possible in your dreams. While the bones of our design process may be the same for every interior design job, the details of it are just as unique as each of our clients.
