Conquering the New York Gift Show

Each year the anticipated arrival of the New York Gift Show brings mixed feelings of excitement and apprehension. It is an easy train commute from my Connecticut residence to Grand Central. Complete with over 2,500 venders, the New York Gift Show is an International trade show open exclusively to buyers and designers from around the world. It is held twice yearly. Once in the summer buying for the fall and winter season and once in February buying for the spring and summer season.

Roaming the isles of the Javits Center, surrounded by a diverse selection of venders and buyers is one that definitely exhilarating. It sometimes resembles accessory shopping overload on Prozac. Three floors of the most amazing products including textiles, artwork, florals, clothing, home furnishings and gifts. Armed with my reliable assistant Jillian and our mile long wish list we are ready to conquer the show.

Although so much can be ordered online, nothing compares to the experience of buying product at the show. The immense amount of time and effort that each vender puts into their booth is inspiring on its own. Throughout twenty years that I have religiously attended the New York Gift Show, I have discovered some of my favorite brands for the store including, Couture Dreams, a luxury pre-made curtain line (shop all linens on our website). This year  I was happy to be able to pay a visit to our friends at Couture Dreams in the home furnishings section at booth #2645 We were also excited to find several new venders on our trip. Heading towards the end of the day, Jillian and I were ecstatic to discover a new artwork supplier in the homemade section. Cedar Mountain, a company based in Canada, develops hand crafted art by applying plastering techniques over wood. Without hesitation, we placed our first of many orders. Their booth is pictured below.Along with the excitement of discovering new venders, the New York Gift show also provides endless inspiration. Here’s some of what we were inspired by:We love our Pom Pom bedroom display featured in our store (pictured above).
